Notes: On a blistering cold and extremely windy January day, we ventured out onto Cootes Paradise, a swamp in Hamilton. This was the first time this year that the ice was solid enough to hold our weight. We came across a large area with this kind of ice. We figured that the previous week's freeze broke up a few days ago with an early winter thaw and then refroze to create this pattern. I'm glad that I took a large number of photos of this area for when I went back the next day, it was covered with snow and irretrievable.
