Precarious Hold

Limited Edition of 25

Date: April, 2003
Location: Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Notes: I found this in front of my house beside the sidewalk. I had shovelled the snow the week previous, and it was now melting. It seems that the sun of the previous day melted the superficial layer of the shovelled snow. It then froze into a continuous ice coating. The next day, when the sun shone even harder, it melted the underlying snow, leaving the shell suspended. In order to get this image, I had to lie flat on my stomach, with my tripod holding my camera a couple inches off the ground. I was there so long that a girl walking home from the university ran up to me afraid that I had fallen and was lying unconscious. I later tried using a flash on this structure to get a different effect. Two bursts of flash was enough to melt it and have it disappear.
